Cloud Computing Options for Agency Software Customers

Many of our customers are considering their options when it comes to working from home during this crisis. We wanted to outline some things you can do to access your agency software programs remotely from home. You might think that installing our programs on your home computer is the best option, but it isn't because your data will get out of sync with your office copy and you will have to type it again later. There are better options.

The easiest and most cost effective 'short-term' solution to access your agency software is to install remote desktop software such as Logmein.com (which offers a free 14 day trial) or DWService.net (which is open source and free forever) In my opinion, Logmein.com is easier to setup and use while DWService.net is free. You install this software on your work computer and your desktop becomes available from any browser. The advantages of using these products are that you will have access to all of your programs at the office, they are fairly easy to set up, and your work data will stay in sync (versus taking a copy of the program home with you). The disadvantages are that you will need good internet service on both ends, and they pose more of a security issue, so make sure to use a strong password and check with your network administrator before installing. Also, these solutions will tie up your office computer if anyone else needs access to it while you're using it remotely. See the above links at the top of this page for setting up these solutions. We recently also became aware of another solution named SplashTop.com that offers a 7 day trial, is easy to configure and use, and only costs $60/year (vs Logmein which costs $350/yr after the trial). 

If you are looking for a more of a long-term solution, we want you to know that we offer a low cost completely web-based system, Agency2Go. We can convert your existing data (except old style ACORD forms and Old style Notes) and host it on our secure Amazon servers. Please note that Agency2Go does not offer accounting and some of the advanced features found in AgencyPro and EZAgent, so it may be best suited for EasyApps and EasyApps Professional customers. If you are an EZAgent or AgencyPro customer looking for a long-term, turn key, remote access solution, we have a solution for that as well. Our cloud partner, EmeCloud currently hosts hundreds of our customers, and is very familiar with the configuration and management of our software. For about $30 per user/per month EME can take a copy of your EZAgent or AgencyPro and make it available at home via a launchpad that you download through a browser. Some great advantages of this solution is that you don't have to re-learn any new software, your backups are automatic, and you have access to all of the features you're accustomed to.
